Robin, Chris and Richard rock Norwich

Robin Trower kicked off his 2016 UK tour in some style tonight as we were treated to a guitar master class in ‘how it’s done’!  Sidemen Richard Watts and Christopher Taggart take their share of the plaudits too in what was an absolutely blistering performance.

The thing that really me struck me was the ferocity of Robin’s soloing on many of the up-tempo numbers. His powerful outros on Too Rolling Stoned, Somebody Calling and The Turning showcased his more soulful, lyrical style of playing. Yet it was numbers like Bridge of Sighs, Daydream and For Earth Below which gave him the wide open space for more expansive solos. #incredible

Robin, Chris and Richard really got into the groove on Somebody Calling. IMHO the song’s outro section continues to be one of the band’s best live vibes. #loveit

At the heart of the set were two stand out songs. Tasty renditions from the 2016 studio album – title track Where You Are Going To and I’m Holding Out For You. Here’s hoping we’ll get to hear more from the album on this tour. Suggestion: How about a little Delusion Sweet Delusion?

The Waterfront audience really got into the music and joined in, especially during A Little Bit Of Sympathy. Sadly, the show ended far too soon.

Review by Alan Howard with thanks to Ray Cordell for the fabulous pictures.

Check out Ray’s excellent YouTube videos of the show. The first contains a few clips from the set. The second is the complete Daydream.

Thanks to Robin, Richard, Christopher, Alan, Laurie, Alex and all the crew for a great great show!

Set List: Too Rolling Stoned | See The Day | Not Outside – Inside | Where You Are Going To | Somebody Calling | Day Of The Eagle | Bridge of Sighs | The Turning | I'm Holding On To You | Confessin' Midnight | Daydream | A Little Bit Of Sympathy. Encores: Rise Up Like The Sun | For Earth Below.
